Wellness centre pivots to offer digital services to patients with dementia

keyboard handsLANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — An adult cognitive wellness centre was supposed to open in Langley last month, but like most things, COVID-19 had other plans.

The Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre was meant to be available by April 14, but as the virus spread, owner Massi Bakhshian, says she has had to develop some creative solutions to adhere to social distancing.

“Due to many shared issues from families, this new type of program, is something the team at the Centre agrees is a much-needed community service for adults 50+ with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia and for their caregivers,” an email from Bakhshian reads.

She’s also devilled support for family caregivers by hosting monthly online support group meetings facilitated by a dementia consultant.

“We need to do something. We just can’t leave the families all alone out there during this difficult COVID-19 time,” she says.

Bakhshian’s programs include online yoga and meditation sessions, information tool kits, and online group chats. But new programs to assist other vulnerable clients are being added as time goes on.

The Bakhshian says as for when the Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre will finally open, she is just waiting for health officials to give the “green light.”

The centre strives to create activities for improving thinking, concentration, memory and overall holistic wellness.
