Empowering Families: Dementia & Caregiving – A 3-Week Learning Series in Anmore

Anmore & ACWC Event

Caring for a loved one with dementia can be an overwhelming journey filled with uncertainty, emotional challenges, and the need for continuous learning. That’s why The Village of Anmore, in partnership with the Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre (ACWC), is hosting a free 3-week Dementia & Caregiving Learning Series to provide much-needed education, support, and community connection for family caregivers.

This series will be led by Karen Tyrell, a Canadian Dementia Consultant & Educator with over 30 years of experience in dementia care. Each session is designed to give caregivers valuable tools to better understand dementia, reduce stress, and access community resources that can ease the caregiving journey.

What You Will Learn

  • Week 1: Understanding Dementia & How to Maintain a Healthy Brain
  • Week 2: The Connection Between Stress & Dementia + Coping Strategies for Caregivers
  • Week 3: Community Supports & Next Steps for Family Caregivers

Location: Anmore Community Hub – 2697 Sunnyside Rd., Anmore

This is more than just an educational event—it’s an opportunity for caregivers to connect, share their experiences, and discover the support available in their community.

Why This Learning Series Matters

Dementia not only affects individuals but also deeply impacts families. Without the right knowledge and support, caregivers can experience burnout, stress, and feelings of isolation. This series is designed to:

✅ Educate families about dementia and practical ways to support brain health

✅ Provide coping strategies to manage caregiver stress and emotional well-being

✅ Introduce local resources available in Anmore and surrounding communities

✅ Create a supportive environment where families can share their experiences and connect with others who understand their journey

Building a Dementia-Friendly Community

At ACWC, we believe that dementia-friendly communities are built through education, connection, and action. Programs like this Learning Series, Dementia-Friendly Cafés, and Family Caregiver Support Programs are essential in creating spaces where families feel supported and valued.

This event is also an opportunity for the Village of Anmore to hear from families—to understand what support is needed and explore how we can bring more dementia-friendly initiatives to the community. Whether it’s additional workshops, respite care programs, or social activities for both caregivers and their loved ones, your input matters.
